William H. Paetzold

Attorney William Paetzold was admitted to the state and federal bar in 1990. He began his legal career as a Public Defender assigned to the Judicial District of Tolland. After several successful trials in his four years with that office, he brought his skills to the private criminal defense bar. Over the past 33 years of practice Bill has tried in excesses of 40 criminal cases to verdict in front of state and federal court juries across Connecticut. He has also successfully argued cases before the state’s Appellate and Supreme courts, as well as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York City.

Prior to becoming a criminal lawyer in Connecticut, Bill worked for six years as a criminalist at the Connecticut State Police Forensic Science Laboratory. His extensive training and experience in the field of forensic science is often applied to his trial work. Bill specializes in complex criminal defense cases that involve digital evidence, DNA, crime scene reconstruction, and other forensic aspects. With his extensive background, Bill also provides strategic legal consultation to other less experienced private attorneys and has assisted in training young public defenders. Bill has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in the legal community since 2014 and is also a member of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He has also helped educate the next generation of lawyers as a former adjunct professor at Manchester Community College and Middlesex Community College where he taught Criminal Law.
